Master

Classical Ballet

At Bayview School of Ballet, our Children's Ballet Program is designed for dancers ready to take the next step in their classical training. With a focus on refined technique, musicality, and stage presence, this program nurtures artistic growth and prepares students for advanced levels.

Level 1 (Ages 6–7)
Reinforces foundational ballet technique for dancers with prior training. Classes emphasize posture, alignment, coordination, and musicality through a structured and supportive curriculum.

Level 2 (Ages 5–9)
Designed for dancers who have completed introductory training, this level builds strength, flexibility, and focus while introducing more complex exercises and combinations.

Level 3 (Ages 9–10)
A pre-professional level that develops precision, control, and expressive movement. This level serves as a bridge to upper-level company classes.

All levels are performance-based, allowing dancers to participate in major productions such as The Nutcracker and our annual year-end performance. These experiences foster confidence, stage artistry, and a love of performance.

Pointe

Pointe work is an advanced technique that requires immense strength, control, and balance. To prepare for pointe work, dancers must first master the foundational techniques of classical ballet, including posture, alignment, and turnout. They must also develop strong feet, ankles, and leg muscles through a variety of exercises and drills.

The pre-pointe program is an essential step in a dancer's journey toward pointe work. This program is designed to prepare dancers physically and mentally for the demands of pointe work. In addition to strengthening the feet and ankles, it includes exercises that focus on balance, alignment, and stability. Dancers must progress through this program at their own pace, under the guidance of a qualified teacher who can assess their readiness for pointe work.

Once a dancer has progressed to pointe work, they must continue to train diligently to maintain their strength and technique. Pointe work places significant stress on the feet and ankles, and dancers must take care to avoid injury by wearing properly fitted pointe shoes and practicing correct technique. They must also continue to work on their overall technique and artistry, developing their musicality, expression, and stage presence.

Character

Our character dance program is designed for advanced dancers ages 12 and up and is integrated into the majority of our company classes. Taught by experienced instructors with deep expertise in this unique form, the program introduces students to a range of traditional European folk dances adapted for the stage, such as the fiery Spanish flamenco, elegant Russian waltz, lively Hungarian czardas, and graceful Polish mazurka. These vibrant styles challenge dancers to explore diverse rhythms, footwork patterns, and cultural nuances.

Through character dance, our students enhance their strength, coordination, and mobility while deepening their artistry and musicality. They learn to use expressive movement and theatrical elements to convey emotion and storytelling through dance, developing a commanding stage presence and dynamic performance quality.

At Bayview School of Ballet, we view character dance as an essential component of a well-rounded ballet education. By incorporating this rich and dynamic style into our advanced curriculum, we aim to broaden our dancers’ technical vocabulary and provide them with the tools they need to succeed artistically and professionally in both classical and contemporary contexts.
