Allow us to take you on a magical journey called “Freedom of Dance.” Act I, “The Snow Queen,” is based on a famous fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875).
The tale was first published 21 December, 1844, in New Fairy Tales. The story centers on the struggle between good and evil as experienced by a boy and girl, Kai and Gerda. This is one of Andersen's longest and most celebrated stories. It is regularly included in various collections of his work, and frequently appears in illustrated storybook editions.
The tale has been adapted for different media including theatre and dance. Act I is followed by Act ll, excerpts from classical ballet, jazz, tap, flamenco and tango. Enjoy!
